In the past week, I got the honor of being selected as the Principal Violinist for the 2018 SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Orchestra. I also got to introduce the final piece of the day, which was Tales of Vandosar by Richard Meyer.
I was quite nervous about this whole thing as I had never been the top section leader before but with the support of many great friends, I was able to pull through and lead the section to success. One part of this conference I found funny was introducing the music. I had no idea that the conductor had given me a script and essentially done it on the spot during the rehearsal. I obviously failed and it was quite the embarrassment for me.
I think something I found to be interesting was the fact that there were so many good people. I wondered for over a year how good these people were as I didn't make it in 7th grade. I learned this week that they're incredibly good. There were no repetitive mistakes; if we messed up once, it never happened again.
